Profile: Sidewinder believes in munitions overkill. He never uses one missile when three are available. His delight in causing massive explosions means that he eagerly accepts the role of artillery jet, which the majority of Decepticon fliers despise with a vengeance. Laden with missiles, he's slower and less manoeuvrable than most other jets, but packs enough punch to level a mountain. Sidewinder isn't exactly stupid, but he does have a problem perceiving things that don't fit in with his view of how the world should be. He's capable of convincing himself that a vastly superior enemy is no real threat, and never understands complex situations: "He lives in his own little dream-world," says Thundercracker. Because of his unobservant nature and feckless attitude, Sidewinder is unpopular with other Decepticons; he doesn't let it bother him in the slightest.

Abilities: Like the other Decepticon jets, Sidewinder can reach a top speed of 1500 mph. In addition to this, he can use his antigravitation mass thrusters to effect unusual manoeuvres, such as his namesake lateral slither. He is equipped with twin arm-mounted laser carbines. In addition to this, he carries twin wing-mounted missile racks, each capable of holding eight independently targetable smart missiles. Each missile has a range of 75 miles and a concussive force of 10,000 lbs. Combining his ability to attack from unorthodox angles with his powerful ordnance, Sidewinder is brutally efficient in destroying ground-based targets.

Weaknesses: Sidewinder's weaknesses are almost entirely self-inflicted. His inability to recognise powerful threats often leaves him in more trouble than he's able to handle. In robot mode, his attack capabilities are comparatively limited. When his missile racks are full laden, Sidewinder's top speed is reduced by forty percent and his manoeuvrability is severely hampered, making him a very poor air-to-air combatant.
