Profile: Escolar has a brilliant scientific mind, ever searching for new horizons, yet as a person he is something of a cold fish. By no means icy or inhumane, Escolar is simply too absorbed in his great work to make friends. Closely focused on Protoform X, it is often a subject of mirth that he is "married to his work". Escolar dismisses such matters, saying he is simply not a people person. The magnitude of his genius is mostly unappreciated, and he attempts to validate his existence as a person through controlling his environment and those who work with him. His dedication to his life's work is total, yet his purely professional and detached method often makes those around him feel awkward in his presence.

Abilities: Escolar is one of the most respected and learned Maximal scientists; he has few peers and fewer equals in his field. He is an expert in all disciplines of life technology and spark research, both theoretical and practical. His skill as a life-tech surgeon is unmatched amongst the Maximals, and his optic sensors can magnify objects up to fifteen thousand times. His greatest strength is his mind; he is capable of sudden and amazing insights into baffling problems, and the swiftness of his thoughts often leaves even great minds such as Convoy Cardinal and Convoy Vital in the dust. His slender, dextrous creature-mode can thread through any crevice wide enough to admit a hand; it is equipped with two powerful forward-mounted flare-lamps and has an impressive turn of speed. His creature-mode tail-fin converts into a razor-edged manipulator vice which Escolar employs with great dexterity and precision. Created on Omicron, Escolar is capable of operating underwater in either mode, although he rarely enters the sea.

Weaknesses: Escolar's combat capabilities are extremely limited. His heightened intelligence makes it hard for him to find intellectual stimulation outside his work, making him snappish with those around him. He has a somewhat inflated opinion of his importance, and is generally disagreeable when his research is hindered. His optic lenses are particularly fine equipment, and the slightest scratch or nick can cause him considerable problems.
