| OPTIMUS PRIME Optimus Prime embarking on a vision quest |
G2 starts with Optimus Prime in possession of the Matrix, and he keeps it for the first half of the series. |
| MEGATRON Megatron gets his hands on the Matrix |
Megatron clobbers Optimus Prime in a fight and rips the Matrix out of him so he can use it to make new Decepticons. Rather than look after the Matrix himself, Megatron hands it directly to Soundwave. |
| SOUNDWAVE Soundwave gets the Matrix |
Soundwave gets the Matrix to carry home and install in the Decepticon's moon-sized battleship, the Warworld. The Matrix is used to make a bunch of new Decepticons and then vaguely forgotten about by everyone except Starscream. |
| STARSCREAM Starscream gets the Matrix Starscream the Warworld Starscream the Warworld 2 Starscream feels the other effects of the Matrix Starscream gives the Matrix back to Optimus |
Starscream uses the Matrix to merge himself with the Warworld, turning himself into a moon-sized regenerating battleship of huge and horrible power. Then he sets about killing Optimus and Megatron. Starscream shortly discovers that the Matrix has an unpleasant side effect; it makes him a hero. The purity of the Matrix influences Starscream, making protecting Earth more important than his own life. He rather dislikes this effect, so he gives the Matrix back to Optimus, who's very happy to have it back. |
| OPTIMUS PRIME Prime gets eaten Prime gets uneaten |
In order to protect Earth and the other Transformers from the monsterous life-eating Cybertronian entity known as the Swarm, Optimus jumps into the middle of it and lets it eat him alive. The Swarm then try to eat the Matrix, and are introduced to the light of Primus within. This reforms the Swarm, giving it purpose, and in gratitude it stops eating people and recreates Optimus Prime. Presumably he still has the Matrix. |
